Atomicat Record’s tribute allows you to hear how the Ford identity musically entered into different music cultures and influenced songwriters. "I got a hot rod Ford and a new exhaust, four valve carburettor, and I can't get lost" sings Curtis Gordon during Draggin’, "I got a Pink Thunderbird with a red fur seat, well, a-baby it's mine", announces Gene Vincent and The Blue Caps. Eddie Cochran wants some cool threads and during Pink Peg Slacks sings "She got a sawbuck from her daddy and I turned my Ford around", and his love of Fords continues in Somethin' Else "My car's out front and it's all mine, just a '41 Ford, not a '59". Jackie Gotroe sings the story of Lobo Jones "He drove a low slung Ford with the top chopped, every cop from here to Texas knew that he was around."
The bluesmen drive Fords by choice to get their kicks."Ridin' around in that Mercury Forty Nine, 'cause I'm crazy 'bout a Mercury, yes I'm crazy 'bout a Mercury Ford" sung the K.C. Douglas Trio, Rosco Gordon hollers "T-Model Boogie...boogie woogie rollin' along....give me my T-Model", Willie Love and His Three Aces are up to no good "Be riding in my V-8 Ford....you think you're so wise darling" the story unfolds as you listen. Oscar McLollie and His "Honeyjumpers" Roll Hot Rod Roll is about a police chasing a hot rod, and Model-A chassis were mainly used to build a hot rod "Motor made a backfire, ....hear that siren", and Boss T Bird by the Sunset Dragsters and Orchestra is a rhythm and blues instrumental with over-dubbed engine sounds, and its reissued for the first time on this album.
The ladies drive a Ford or have reason to be wary of a Ford. The Delicates joyously harmonise "Then I bought me a car, it was a black and white Thunderbird, so new, .... so cool." Betty Rogers gives feminine charm to Hank Williams's Hey Good Lookin' "Got a hot rod Ford, and a two dollar bill, and I know a spot right over the hill." A Model-A Ford could also get in the way of developing love "Standin' there smootchin' in the cold moonlight, saw a Model-A with the lights on bright, thought it was pa, turn me loose" warns Janis Martin during Let's Elope Baby.
Lefty Nicks and His Southern Drifters sing "Well gather around friends while I tell you a story about a Model- A Ford car and a crying guitar" and James Gallagher is burning the wind "Ford and a Shaker were having a race....here comes the highway patrol." The testosterone-filled youths finally have their fun stopped by the man dressed in blue and Arkie Meets The Judge by Arkie Shibley and The Mountain Dew Boys bring to a conclusion the high-octane tribute to Henry Ford's automobile. "The cops is still looking both night and day, for the kid in the hopped-up Model-A, they say they'll catch him but I don't think it's so,'cause that Model-A can fairly go." With this song the album closes, however, there is more to hear on the highway of dreams about Ford cars. The sleeve notes inform you about the history of the Ford Motor Company and offer a short biography about each artist.
The album is housed in an attractively designed cardboard sleeve, specially designed to avoid the use of plastic and be environmentally friendly. The album has a stunning design by artist Urban Zotel, sleeve notes from reissue producer Dee Jay Mark Armstrong, and songs mastered for the best possible sound by our mastering team at our El Paso, Texas, Studio.
Atomicat Records endeavours to use some lesser-known and for some, perhaps more obscure titles and adds something unexpected to every album. The album is ideal for Dee Jays to fill the dance floor with, and for home listening or while cruising around and scaring the neighbourhood. You are listening to music from the past and preserving the future! Rockstar Records 'Often imitated, never duplicated.”
All that remains is to say, "Crank up the volume and dig these musical gems.”
